This one distinction decides whether the page is useful to you.

Inserting the JPG puts a picture into Word. The Bangla is visible but locked. You cannot fix a single অক্ষর.

Bangla OCR conversion recognizes the script and produces Unicode Bengali text you can edit, search and copy.

If editing is your goal, OCR is the only route.

OCR looks at shapes in the image and matches them to characters.

Bengali makes this harder than English. Letters hang from a top line (মাত্রা), vowel signs attach on four different sides, and consonants combine into joined forms.

So the system isn't reading letters in a row. It's reading a connected structure.

• Conjuncts. যুক্তাক্ষর like ক্ষ, জ্ঞ, ঙ্গ and ত্র are single visual units built from two or more letters. Low resolution splits them apart.
• Vowel signs. ি sits before the consonant, ী after, ু below, ে before. Blur one stroke and কি becomes কী.
• Nukta dots. ড and ড়, ঢ and ঢ়, য and য় differ only by a single dot underneath.
• Similar shapes. ব and র, খ and থ, ঘ and ষ get confused when edges soften.
• The matra line. A broken or faint top line makes word segmentation harder for the system.

Bangla is written left to right, so text direction isn't usually a problem. Character accuracy is.

1. Upload the Bangla JPG or JPEG.
2. The image is cleaned and text regions located.
3. Bengali characters and conjuncts are recognized.
4. Paragraphs, lines and structure are detected.
5. Editable Unicode Bangla content is generated.
6. A Word document is created.
7. You review, correct and download.

Step seven is never optional with Bangla. Always proofread.

Actual features vary between tools, so check what yours supports.

This trips up more people than anything else.

Good OCR output should be Unicode Bangla, which works in Word, Google Docs, Facebook, WhatsApp and browsers without any special font.

Legacy Bijoy/ASCII text (SutonnyMJ and similar) only displays correctly if that exact font is installed. Everywhere else it looks like random Latin characters.

If your converted text appears as gibberish, check whether it's a font issue before assuming the OCR failed.

Unicode-friendly Bangla fonts include Nikosh, Kalpurush and SolaimanLipi.

Printed scans give the best results. Flat, sharp, high contrast.

Bangla textbooks and books convert reliably when scanned properly rather than photographed at an angle.

Newspaper clippings are harder. Small type, thin paper, multiple columns.

Screenshots perform very well since the text is digitally rendered.

Forms and certificates convert the text acceptably, though decorative borders confuse layout detection.

Photos of documents need tight cropping and a flat page.

Handwritten Bangla is the hardest case. Expect significant correction.

• Scan instead of photographing when possible.
• Use higher resolution for small Bangla type.
• Crop out desks, hands and page edges.
• Straighten anything tilted before uploading.
• Use even lighting with no glare on the text.
• Prefer clean printed Bangla over handwriting.

Plain paragraphs convert cleanest.

Tables with visible borders survive better than tables built from spacing alone.

Multi-column Bangla pages, newspapers especially, often merge into one block with jumbled reading order.

Check tables, columns and line breaks first when you open the Word file.

Many Bangla documents contain English words, numbers and dates.

Mixed-script lines are a common source of errors, so review those sections closely.

If your tool offers a language option, select Bangla/Bengali rather than leaving it on auto-detect.

For a scanned book or document, name your files in page order.

Leading zeros stop page 10 from sorting ahead of page 2.

Whether pages combine into one DOCX or produce separate files depends on the tool.

DOC is the older Word format. DOCX is the current standard.

For Bangla, choose DOCX. It handles Unicode text more dependably across editors.

A browser-based converter works on Android and iPhone without Microsoft Word installed.

Photograph the Bangla page, crop it in your gallery first, then upload.

These steps improve results but cannot rescue a badly degraded scan.

Names, dates, numbers and anything official.

Bangla scans often contain certificates, NID details, land papers and personal letters.

Read the tool's privacy policy and file-handling information before uploading sensitive material.
